This week, two holidays with carnivals are celebrated in the English Speaking World. First there is Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, which is the highlight of the year in New Orleans as well as in Brazil and many other, mainly French speaking countries.
This year the Chinese New Year falls on Feb 19th and the biggest celebration outside China takes place in San Francisco.
