WebEnglish.se ‘Better Than Ever’

“Better Than Ever!”, the site manager blurted a few days ago. He has been working on the invisible side of WebEnglish.se on all hours for several weeks this summer with various plug-ins, trying to find free and low-cost solutions to every new idea, twist and tweak that I keep throwing at him.

We have together improved all categorisation so that it would be even easier to find what you are looking for. The layout of the links in both ‘Skills‘ and inside the ‘Themes‘ has also been changed to make the pages clearer and again easier and quicker for you to fathom what the various links are about.

As the new layout made the thumbnails larger in the links, they lost their picture quality. My task is now to go through all the 144 Themes (with dozens of links in each) and almost 800 links in Skills to replace the pictures. I started with Fairy Tales that I never got round to during the latest facelift in January. I have done the most current themes about School Start and continued with the most visited ones, according to the statistics.

When you open a theme page that still has blurry (or small) pictures, please let me know which theme you wish to use and I will update it asap. The quickest way is to send me an e-mail, [email protected], which I check a couple of times per day. Then it only takes me 30-60 min to redo a theme page. You can also add a comment on this post, below.

This applies to anyone who has been on WebEnglish.se during the last month or so:

You need to empty your browsing history to be able to see the updated page. Your browser has saved the pages and pictures for quicker access and you need to empty your browsing history and then refresh your view of WebEnglish.se to get the new layout.

We have added the Subscribe-link again, which has been out-of-use for 18 months. If you used to subscribe to WebEnglish.se newsletters before, you will get an e-mail in a couple of weeks, asking whether you want to receive them again. If you don’t want to wait for the e-mail, you are welcome to restart your subscription. It takes less than a minute.

There’s also now a ‘pop-up’ notice that is shown quite suddenly when opening certain pages for the first time. It will ask you to subscribe to the newsletters. If you click it away, it shouldn’t bother you again for the next month.

NB! There are still some “beauty spots” (bugs) that do not affect accessibility, only the looks, and we will sort them out during the next couple of weeks. Please be patient.
