WebEnglish.se grants (some) wishes

For the last week, WebEnglish.se has been open for suggestions via AnswerGarden. The two topics that came first were the USA and tests. The USA is a wide area, but WebEnglish.se intends to tackle the challenge and publish a page or two on the subject in the near future.
When it comes to tests, the idea of publishing general tests doesn’t really align with the WebEnglish.se guideline of only publishing links that I, personally would be willing to use in my teaching. I test my students by the motto: “Show what you know as you go”, i.e. everything is a test, which in the end means that nothing is more test worthy than anything else, except maybe writing. Out of a written piece, it is very easy to see a student’s starting level and development in the class. To check on my teaching, I use some formative activities. At the end of each term, we use standardized tests, provided by Skolverket (Swedish School Authorities), as a discussion point when determining each student’s grade. I do not see the point in any other kind of testing.
WebEnglish.se has, however, granted another wish this weekend, as some teachers on Facebook expressed the need of materials about Sports. A new page was published yesterday. Link: Sports 2-9
