May 12th is National Limerick Day! A limerick is a type of humorous or nonsense poem, consisting of only five lines of verse. The first and second lines rhyme with the fifth line, while the shorter third and fourth lines rhyme with each other.(siarchives.si.edu)

Limerick Day celebrates the birthday of Writer Edward Lear (1812-1888). It also, of course, celebrates Limerick poems. Limericks were popularized by Lear in 1846 in his Book of Nonsense”.
