Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras

Tuesday 21 February 2023

Fat Tuesday is also known as Mardi Gras Day or Shrove Tuesday. It is a day when people eat all they want of everything and anything they want as the following day is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, the beginning of a long fasting period for Christians.

Shrove Tuesday is also known as Pancake Day. It is celebrated throughout the UK by the cooking and eating of pancakes. In some places pancake races are held, where participants run along tossing a pancake as they go.

The famous New Orleans Mardi Gras is celebrated on this day.

Elementary students can read about Circus Clowns and Carnivals, and for the younger ones, here are Pancake Day Materials
