Communicative Focus on Form

Since Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) emerged as the approach that researchers agree to be most beneficial to Second Language Acquisition (SLA), there have been discussions on what role Form Focus (grammar) should take. In this talk (35 min) Professor Nina Spada gives an account of the current state of the research around From focus in connection to CLT. There are slides to go with the talk to be downloaded. Some questions still remain, but one thing the researchers agree on: explicit grammar training helps students to answer explicit grammar questions, and implicit form focus, woven into communicative practice, helps students to communicate better.
