In the USA, they have dedicated this whole week – some even the whole month – to remind themselves of the important work that teachers do. The first full week in May is Teacher Appreciation Week, and the Tuesday that week is Teacher Appreciation Day. Students make cards and give presents (mostly mugs) to their teachers and even the President has given his proclamation.
In Sweden, it is not customary to celebrate teachers in any special way or day, but perhaps this year, we could give at least ourselves – and why not our colleagues – a (virtual) pat on the back this week as a reminder and appreciation of all the things we do for the students, their families, our society and the future of mankind.
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
