Individual Tasks

Sometimes you may wish to personalise your students’ learning experience. Perhaps it is because they have very dissimilar interests or levels of English, or maybe you want them to work on their self-esteem individually.

This choice board is what I have used with intermediate students within the autism spectrum, but it suits with any group of students. The tasks are personalised according to the students’ interests, IT-skills, language level and inclination to challenge without pointing out any of these as either skills or disabilities.   All choices have equal status and they are only numbered to make it easier to discuss them with each student as I walk around and help them choose.

To help the students with the tasks, I also presented a sample list of possible digital tools that they would like to use to plan, proofread, and present their work.

Needless to say, if none of my suggestions pleased the student, they could come up with another way to improve their language skills, as long as it aligned with the curriculum.
