Love and Friends

February 14th is Valentine’s Day. Traditionally, it is the day to show appreciation to your loved ones, to declare your secret crush on somebody or to propose to your bride-to-be. As 2020 is a leap year, the tradition urges ladies to propose to their beaus in order to get to the next step in the relationship.

In Finland, Valentine’s Day has been called Friend’s Day since 1987 when it was first officially added to the calendar. The name was launched by Red Cross and should not be taken as proof to the common belief that Finns would be less romantic and openly affectionate compared to many other cultures. The virtue of Friend’s Day lies in how it expands the number of potential receivers of Friend’s Day cards and messages exponentially when even singles can feel loved and appreciated.
