WebEnglish.se received a request for the type of grammar activities that we promote. The answer is based on a well-known conviction: “What you do, you will remember”. The task is to make students correct mistakes, either their own or others’.
Firstly, when students have written something, instead of correcting the mistakes, the teacher only points out where the errors are. Some give a hint by telling the student what type of a mistake it is: spelling, vocabulary, grammar or a missing word. Which errors are marked depends on the individual student’s level and capacity.
Secondly, when the students have all written about the same topic, e.g. a film report, the teacher collects one or two sentences from every student’s paper into a document, copies it and lets the students try to find the mistakes in pairs. These errors should be the most common ones. Then you check the answers together.
Thirdly, there is a website, Quill that has ready-made texts for proofreading.
And finally, to spice it up there are grammar games in WebEnglish.se for levels 5-6 and 7-9.Get a Bonus Surprise by clicking the image.
